Dr. Shasteen has always had a passion for helping and improving the lives of others. He was born into a blue-collar family and was raised in Western Pennsylvania. Regarding his role as a healthcare provider, he was able to acquire essential physician qualities via his academic and athletic experiences. Zach’s athletic journey began over 23 years ago when he started to participate in sports at the age of 3. He was heavily involved in football, basketball, track & field, and baseball throughout his childhood and adolescent years. Dr. Shasteen would go on to pursue his dreams of becoming a NCAA Division 1 Student-Athlete. He attended the University of Memphis as a pole vaulter on the Men’s Track & Field team. During his Sophomore outdoor track season, he sustained a lower back injury that would change his life forever. Zach reported to the team medical doctor and team orthopedic specialist to get an initial evaluation of his lower back injury. The team physicians told him that the remainder of his season would most likely be over and that surgery was a future possibility. During a conversation with his pole vault coach, Zach was wondering if there were any other options to care. His coach encouraged him to see the team chiropractor for another opinion or possible treatment options. This was the most pivotal moment in Dr. Shasteen’s life. He saw the team chiropractor and after about 3 weeks of various treatments he was back to competing and pole vaulting. Zach was astonished with the treatment he received and how it significantly decreased his recovery time. He knew at that moment that his destiny was to become a chiropractor in the hopes of helping others. Zach finished out his student-athlete career and obtained his Bachelors of Science in Exercise & Sport Movement Sciences.

He then attended National University of Health Sciences in St. Petersburg, Florida, for his doctorate of chiropractic degree. Throughout his doctoral program he would volunteer at numerous sporting and community events. Some of these included: Disney World Marathons and Dragon Boat World Championships. Dr. Shasteen was unanimously selected for a 6-month chiropractic clerkship at the Bay Pines Veterans Affairs Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. It was here, at the nation’s 4th largest VA Hospital, that he was able to treat our nation’s former and current veterans with chiropractic care.
